major services

The following major services run on nodes:

ERRORLOGThe errorlog subsystem provides a uniform mechanism for system units to record unexpected internal processing states or unexpected results returned from system libraries.
RPSERVERSeveral network subservices regularly need to record data for subsequent processing. The record management subsystem provides a single implementation of the collection software.
MTDEMONThe mtdemon is the scheduling entity of the Message Transport System. It analyzes queued message transport requests placed in the queue by user-agent and gateway processes.
POSTMASTERHandles local mail delivery and delivery notifications.
SHAREDATAThis subsystem manages teh customers shared folders, .image information, and EDI tables. Certain network nodes are designated as sharedata providers, with at least one per site.
PDUPortable Distributed Unix provides a networked I/O capability to support the Shared folder feature. It is comprised of transmitters for requesting remote execution and receivers for processing requests from remote processes.
NCDEMONHandles sharedata caching and runs as a subprocesses to PDU.
ECONOMASTERHandles delivery of messages during off-peak hours. An economaster process on each system spawns off an economaster for each spool and customer filesystem as controlled by the times in em.table.
UUDEMONControls all unix account sessions on each processor.
NMDAEMONNetwork monitor processes. Runs specific processes as directed by /etc/monittab to ensure health of several network components.
MIRRESTOREService controls the updating of mirrored disks on a processor.
AUTHThis process controls customer access to the network. This is accomplished by accepting a user's ID and password pair and comparing this information to the customer directory (CD). If there is a good match, the user will be offered the appropriate menu prompts or spliced directly into the mail service on their home filesystem.
